One-to-one counselling with Jodie Jago

Counselling in Preston and online

A confidential space that’s just for you.

Some things are hard to carry on your own. Counselling gives you regular, protected time to talk, make sense of what’s happening and find a way forward that fits you. We go at your pace, and you decide what we focus on.

I offer private, one-to-one counselling in Preston, and online across Ormskirk, West Lancashire and the rest of the UK.

What we can work on in counselling

People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes there’s something specific, and sometimes life just feels stuck, heavy or confusing. You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong to get in touch.

Anxiety and health anxiety

When your mind won’t switch off, or every twinge feels like the start of something serious, it’s exhausting. We slow it down together and get curious about what the worry is trying to protect you from.

Addiction and substance use

I’ve worked in substance misuse services, community drug teams and rehabs, and I have my own lived experience. You won’t shock me, and you won’t be judged. We look at what the drink, the drugs or the habit has been doing for you, and what you need instead.

Trauma

What happened to you matters, and so does how you carry it now. We go at a pace that feels safe, and you’re always in charge of what you share.

Relationships and family difficulties

The people closest to us can bring the most joy and the most pain. Counselling gives you room to untangle the patterns, the roles you’ve been handed and the ones you want to put down.

Emotional eating and your relationship with food

If food has become your comfort, your punishment or your way of coping, you’re not alone, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. We explore what food has been doing for you emotionally, with curiosity rather than rules. I don’t give diet advice, and this isn’t about weight.

Low mood

When everything feels flat, heavy or grey, and even the things you used to enjoy feel like too much effort, it’s easy to blame yourself. You’re not lazy and you’re not failing. We make space for what’s underneath, at your pace, and find small ways back to yourself.

Big life changes

A break-up, a move, a new baby, a job ending, children leaving home, getting sober. Even the changes you chose can knock the ground from under you. Counselling gives you somewhere steady to work out who you are now and what you need next.

Stress and feeling overwhelmed

When you’re holding everything together for everyone else, running on empty and snapping at the people you love, something has to give. Stress isn’t weakness, and it isn’t you failing to cope. Counselling for stress and anxiety gives you space to look at what’s piling up, what you’re carrying that was never yours, and what would actually help you breathe again.

Low self-esteem and self-worth

If you can’t remember the last time you actually liked yourself, I’ve been there. That voice telling you you’re not enough didn’t come from nowhere, and it doesn’t get the final word. Together we get curious about where it came from, and start building a kinder, steadier way of seeing yourself.

If what you’re going through isn’t on this list, get in touch anyway. I’ll be honest about whether I’m the right person to help, and if I’m not, I’ll help you find someone who is.

Face-to-face counselling in Preston, and online across the UK

Every new client starts online for the first two sessions. It gives us both the chance to get to know each other and check the way we work feels right for you.

After that, if you live in or near Preston and you’d prefer to meet in person, we can meet face to face in Preston, as long as we both feel comfortable.

If you’re in Ormskirk, anywhere in West Lancashire or anywhere else in the UK, we carry on online. Some people find it easier to open up from their own space, and you can stay online for as long as you like, wherever you are.

Why work with me

I’ve spent my working life in support roles: substance misuse services, prisons, community drug teams and rehabs, including as a rehab manager. I also have my own lived experience of reaching for food and substances to cope, and I hold a Diploma in Transpersonal Therapeutic Counselling from Clearmind International Institute (2024), after three years of practitioner training with my own therapy at its heart.

I won’t judge you, and I won’t pretend I have it all worked out myself. I work with curiosity rather than judgement, and you choose what you share.

I have regular clinical supervision, so the way I work is always being thoughtfully checked and supported.

“You don’t need to have it all worked out to get in touch.”
