Privacy notice

Your privacy matters to me. Counselling is built on trust, and that includes how I look after your information. This notice explains what I collect, why, how long I keep it, and your rights.

Last updated: 29 October 2026

Who I am

Jodie Jago Therapy is a trading name of Jodie Jago Group, which is the data controller for the personal information described here. You can contact me about anything in this notice at jodiejagotherapy@gmail.com.

ICO registration number: C2072044

What I collect

From the website:

  • Your name and email address, and your phone number if you give it, when you use a contact, interest or sign-up form

  • Your message, the option you’re interested in, and how you heard about me

  • Whether you’ve agreed to receive emails about groups and events

  • Cookie and analytics information, only if you accept analytics cookies

If you become a client or join a group:

  • Contact details and an emergency contact

  • Your answers on the suitability call and application or screening form

  • Brief session notes, attendance and payment records

  • If you ask about a sliding-scale fee: evidence of a low income, such as a Universal Credit statement, which I see but don’t store

Please don’t send health or medical details through the website forms. We can talk about them privately.

Health information

Screening answers and session notes can include information about your health, which the law treats as special category data and protects more strongly. I only collect what I need to work with you safely, and I rely on your explicit consent, which you give when you agree to counselling.

Why I use your information, and on what basis

  • To reply to your enquiry and provide counselling or a group place: to take steps at your request before a contract, and to carry out that contract

  • To send you emails about groups and events: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing me

  • To agree a sliding-scale fee if you’re on a low income: to take steps at your request before a contract

  • To keep client and financial records: my legal obligations and my legitimate interests in running a safe, accountable practice

  • To understand how the website is used: your consent, given through the cookie banner

Who I share it with

I never sell your information. I share it only with services that help me run my practice, and only as much as they need:

  • Squarespace (website, forms, mailing list, and email updates sent through Squarespace Email Campaigns)

  • Zoom (online sessions and groups)

  • Google (email at jodiejagotherapy@gmail.com)

  • My bank, for payments made by bank transfer

  • My clinical supervisor, as part of my regular clinical supervision, with nothing that identifies you

Otherwise I share information only where the law requires it, or where I’m seriously worried about your safety or someone else’s, as I’ll explain before we start working together.

Information sent outside the UK

Some of these providers, including Squarespace, Zoom and Google, may process data in the United States. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

How long I keep it

  • Enquiries that don’t go further: 12 months

  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe

  • Client records and session notes: kept for 7 years after our last session, then securely deleted

  • Financial records: 6 years, as HMRC requires

  • Evidence of low income for a sliding-scale fee: I look at it only to agree your fee, and I don’t keep a copy. I only note that I’ve seen it, the date and the fee we agreed, and that note is kept with your client record.

After that, I delete or securely destroy it.

How I keep it safe

Client notes are kept digitally only, on a password-protected laptop, and handled in line with UK GDPR. I don’t keep paper notes.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how I use it, to have it transferred, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To ask, email jodiejagotherapy@gmail.com. I’ll reply within one month.

Cookies

Essential cookies keep the site working. With your permission, I also use analytics cookies to see how people use the site so I can improve it. Nothing is used for advertising. You can change your choice at any time through Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first at jodiejagotherapy@gmail.com and I’ll do my best to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

I’ll update this notice if anything changes, and the date at the top will show when.
